Again random thoughts today. About our jobs. Oh well!!
Was thinking about how many of us really knew what we were getting into before we joined our companies? Not me definitely. IT job was (is) so overrated that, that i felt there was no other worthy job elsewhere. Now do i know the truth.
But if someone asks, do we really tell how much our jobs suck. Nooo.. Not everyone. May be among our peers but definitely not to our uncles and aunts. Why? We dont want them to think that we are doing something unworthy. Right? Oh well!!
And if someone asks what exactly is your work? You try to mask your job description with all glossy words like 'i create web pages, applications for so and so company'. What someone is really doing might be write html code. I mean will we really own up that our jobs suck? That we are not happy there and we are sticking in that company cos of big bucks?? No one likes to accept his mistakes, after all....

I agree with you. Very few of them do get to do really gud stuff as u have quoted "i create web pages, applications for so and so company" ..
ReplyDeleteBut more than 70-80% jobs are just the way u have mentioned ..
@ the end of day .. bucks is wat matters ..
I think the basic problem lies with the our education system as a whole.
ReplyDeleteWe have to, in a small way, make our first choices after 10th; but tell me, by that time, does our esteemed state board syllabus really educate us on the opportunities/ courses of study? It doesn't breathe any word other than 'science' and '10th pass'. Next, at the PU level; does it tell you what to expect in engineering and the choices therein? It didn't for me, which is why I stayed at a safe distance. Does your engineering education tell you what the market demands and how to correlate it? Does it allow you to intern and experience it at an earlier stage? My guess is no.
Our education system needs a MASSIVE revamp. Else we'll be stuck in this swamp. Hey, that rhymes!! Now, if only I knew the career options for rhymers,.....
Ha ha.. nice one Yamuna.
ReplyDeleteAnd i completely agree to what u have said. I was a victim of that system. Now i think how different it would have been if i had not taken up Engineering. Oh well!! thats for another discussion....
